AI in Mining Workshop — Expression of Interest
A 5-day hands-on workshop teaching mining engineers to use Python, AI coding assistants, and production-grade tools to transition from spreadsheet-driven workflows to auditable, automated systems — built on the same codebase behind MiningIQ and MineCost.
This isn't a generic Python course with toy datasets. Every exercise uses real mining data — block models, cost trees, equipment fleets, and drilling data — derived from the same production code behind MiningIQ and MineCost.
Workshop Schedule
Five days of hands-on, production-grade training for mining engineers.
AI Spreadsheet Audit & Python Foundations
Live demonstration of AI tools (Cowork, Windsurf) auditing a real mine cost spreadsheet. Environment setup, Python fundamentals, and your first automated report.
Mining Data Engineering
Block model processing with Pandas and NumPy. Parquet for fast storage. Programmatic Excel generation with openpyxl — VBA macros, dropdown validation, conditional formatting, and embedded charts.
Risk Modelling & AI Integration
Bayesian risk modelling with PyMC3 and Monte Carlo simulation using asymmetric flexes and expert probabilities. AI-assisted coding and document analysis with Claude API and Gemini.
Dashboards & Cloud Deployment
Streamlit dashboards with Plotly. Docker containerisation. AWS deployment with EC2, S3, and IAM.
Governance & Real-World Costs
Data sovereignty, AI governance, cost controls, and building the business case. Realistic AI tooling budgets: $200–500 per user per month across platforms.
What Makes This Different
This workshop is built by mining software engineers, not generic trainers.
Production-Derived Labs
Every exercise comes from MiningIQ or MineCost production code — not tutorials or toy examples.
Spreadsheets Stay
This is not a "spreadsheets are bad" workshop. You keep Excel as your delivery layer but compute properly behind it.
AI as Audit Tool
AI reads your existing spreadsheets and tells you what they're doing, where they might be wrong, and how they connect to each other.
Domain-Specific
Datasets are block models, not iris flowers. Cost models are WBS-driven equipment fleet calculations, not generic examples.
You Keep Everything
All code repositories, templates, Excel generation scripts, and workshop materials remain with the client.
Real Cost Transparency
Covers the true cost of AI tooling, governance frameworks, centralised procurement, and how to build the business case for your team.
Delivery Options
Pricing depends on group size, location, and whether client-specific datasets and spreadsheets will be incorporated into the labs.
Core Workshop
5 days on-site, maximum of 8 participants. Covers the full spreadsheet-to-database transition with immediate practical output.
Executive Briefing
Half day on-site or remote. Live demo of AI spreadsheet audit and the strategic case for the transition.
